Musaios: Hardware Requirements
You must have Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT or Windows 2000.
Almost any computer running running Windows 3.1 or better can run Musaios. If you have CGA or EGA graphics, you will need to upgrade to VGA (at least 640 x 480 resolution, at least 16 colors).
The program as installed takes 2 MB or less on your hard drive.
Of course, you can't use the CD-ROMs unless you have a CD-ROM drive. Even the ancient minimum, "single speed" drives will work, but if you invest in the fastest one you can afford, you will probably not regret it.
If you are buying a new computer to use with the CD-ROMs, or converting from Macintosh, here is the recommended minimum configuration. This will allow you to install a decent word processor and other applications that most scholars will find themselves wanting to use:
- Windows 98 with 32+ MB RAM
- 1 GB or larger hard drive
- 36x or faster CD-ROM drive.
- 3.5 inch Floppy Disk Drive
- If you wish to send Fax or dial in to the Internet, AOL, or other online service, you should also add a 28.8+ bps FAX Modem to your shopping list. At least in the U.S., they cost almost nothing.
